Interplast

Interplast Australia & New Zealand, founded in 1983, is a joint partnership between Rotary International and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Interplast Australia & New Zealand has performed ‘life changing’ operations free, to children and young adults in over 20 developing countries suffering from cleft lip and/or palates, burns and other deformities. If a patient requires difficult or dangerous surgery they are brought to Australia.

The average cost of a two week program to a developing country is $40,000, allowing patients to be treated in their home country in familiar surroundings and with family support. The cost to perform one ‘life changing’ operation is approximately $650.

In its 23 year history, Interplast Australia & New Zealand has established a reputation for high quality service delivery as well as the ability to balance both humanitarian and development needs. During this time 571 volunteer surgeons, nurses and anaesthetists have provided consultations for more than 27,000 people and performed 16,040 operations. Interplast Australia & New Zealand has also sponsored 59 doctors and nurses to undertake training attachments in Australia.

The demand for Interplast Australia & New Zealand’s services remains high and continuing financial support is essential. If you have an occasion for a speaker, please phone for a Rotarian or a member of Interplast Australia & New Zealand’s surgical team to speak to your Club.
