Goat breeding Project in Kenya

On the 19th of January 2009, Wycliffe Owiti and Sheila Matete-Owiti were invited as guest speakers at the Rotary Club of Maroubra. Sheila presented the vision and mission of PIYE Inc. The aim of PIYE Inc is to empower community groups in Kenya to break the cycle of ill health, poverty and hunger.

The first PIYE project is at Ongeche Village. The Ongeche project is a multi-faceted project involving health, education, and economic sustainability. One aspect of the project involves a series of income generating activities. The Ongeche community identified the need to develop a goats project that can provide milk, and address malnutrition, while increasing the economic capacity of the community as a whole through breeding.

The project will involve purchasing ten goats, constructing a goat shed, purchasing goat feed and veterinary services.  Construction of the goats shed will begin in September 2009 – after the rainy season. The goats project is managed by members of the Ongeche community board.

The Ongeche Community and Piye Inc would like to give special thanks to RC Maroubra for their recent donation of $3,200 towards the Ongeche Village Goats project.
