Governor’s Message
Dear Rotarians of District 9680,
Well the August MEMBERSHIP MONTH has come and gone, and we finally got the starting membership figures for this year all sorted out (see article this newsletter); and although it was disappointing to see we dropped another 50 members in our district last year, new member inductions for July and August have been very encouraging .
Now it is NEW GENERATIONS MONTH, and we have a lot of new energy and excitement happening with Rotaract. Congratulations to our District Rep Jeremy Charles who is very active in promoting Rotaract and forming new clubs and I do hope that all the Rotary clubs will support him and the Rotaractors in their efforts to rebuild Rotaract in our district. Jeremy’s details and all the Rotaract details can be found on pages 82-83 of the District Directory.
DG Club Visits
It has again be a very busy couple of weeks. I was up very early on two mornings when I visited Manly Sunrise and Chatswood Sunrise clubs. Then a lunch meeting at North Sydney and evening meetings at Pennant Hills, North Rocks, Beecroft, and Baulkham Hills. As well, I attended the Gosford City Charter last Friday night and I will be at the ROMAC dinner this Friday night - I hope to see you there. See the photos
District Membership Figures
Our district membership numbers for the start of the 2008/09 year has been established at 1,894 members.
Surprisingly we lost some 100 members in resignation as at the 30/6 , and our starting figure for this year is down 50 members from the starting figure last year. However, we had 31 new members in July and I am looking forward to a similar figure in August. Congratulations to all those clubs who have inducted new members in the first two months of this year! I will be sending all new members a letter of welcome. View the new members here District Membership & Attendance figures are here
Gosford City Charter Celebration
Over 100 attended the new Gosford City Charter Night last Friday evening , where Central Coast celebrity photographer, Ken Duncan was the guest speaker. It was a really great night and very well attended by the other Central Coast clubs. More - with photos
New Bus presented to Youth Group
During my official visit to the Rotary Club of North Sydney, I was privileged to be present for the special occasion when the club presented a beautifully presented 12 seater Toyota bus to the Phoenix House Youth organisation in Crows Nest. Congratulations to PP Jenny Thomas and the club for their great efforts in raising the funds for the $60,000 project. More & photos
Membership Analysis per Population
Geoff Workman has just completed a very interesting analysis of Rotary members per head of population in the fifteen different Local Government Areas. These figures range from Hunters Hill where we have one Rotarian to every 316 persons, to Wyong where we have one Rotarian to every 2,106 persons .
This is helping us identify where there are opportunities for growth. Please take a look at the full report along with our membership targets for 2008/09. View the table

Booligal Sheep Races
This annual event in the small town of Booligal (90 km north of Hay), may be of interest to anyone travelling in that area on 18 October. I know that Kariong/Somersby had a “help the bush” project in that area last year. Perhaps they and other clubs may want to make a follow up visit ??? Full details
